ABOUT
Blackawton is a pretty and vibrant community situated in the South Hams between Totnes and Dartmouth. Many will drive through the village en route to Dartmouth, but few will stop. This village is well worth a stop with it’s South Devon charm and friendly residents it makes for an ideal lunch spot.
The Church of St Michael in the village dates back to the 15th century and boasts a Norman baptismal font as well as a fabulous, well-preserved rood screen. The parishes of Blackawton and Strete have been linked closely for a very long time and Strete only became a separate civil parish in 1935.
There is one pub in the village and a community shop. Within the area, visitors will find plenty of gorgeous countryside walks offering views of the sea and moors.
Blackawton hosts an annual Worm Charming Festival which has been run since 1980 is fun for the whole family. Everyone is welcome to attend and join in the variety of activities.
