The retail industry along with hospitality and many others have been one of the hardest hit during the Coronavirus pandemic and the cost of living crisis so, let’s all do our best to give them a helping hand.

Dartmouth is known for it’s fantastic selection of independent retailers, from unique boutiques to galleries filled with local art, delis offering superb local produce and lots lots more, there’s truly something for everyone in the town and plenty of options to choose from to support local businesses. Below we’ve highlighted just some of the brilliant shops and services in Dartmouth to help you shop local during your visit.

Baxters Gallery

Baxters Gallery in the heart of Dartmouth on the corner of Foss Street and Flavel Street opened in 2006 and showcases amazing art, sculpture, jewellery and more all of which is handmade in the UK.

Ashby’s of Kingsbridge & Salcombe

Established in 1987, Ashby’s is a local family-run business with two stores, one in Salcombe and one on the Kingsbridge to Dartmouth coastal road which offer a vast array of products from outdoor leisure equipment to stationary and toys.

Paul Barclay Designs

Paul Barclay Designs offers illustrated branded merchandise and yacht wear from the super talented Paul Barclay who moved to Dartmouth in 1989.

Whitesails Gallery

Opened in 2001, Whitesails Gallery was originally run by a renowned photographer and changed hands in 2010. It’s known for it’s wonderful selection of artwork by local artists as well as Limited Edition pieces.

Dart Gallery

Located on Lower Street, the independent Dart Gallery boasts a wide range of amazing artwork from British artists and when able, they also host exhibitions to show their artists new work.

Dartmouth Wine Company

With a focus on local products as well as drinks from around the world, Dartmouth Wine Company specialise in wine, beer, spirits and more.

Distinctly Living

A family owned and run business founded in 2008, Distinctly Living is a home interior and kitchen design shop supplying quality homeware, kitchens and furniture.

JackSpeak

JackSpeak is a clothing brand that originated in Dartmouth and has a maritime feel which is inspired by Dartmouth’s strong links with the Royal Navy, particularly Britannia Royal Naval College.

Michael Sutton’s Cellar

Based out of town on the far side of Stoke Fleming, Michael Sutton’s Cellar specialises in wines from all over the world. When able, they also host events such as wine tasting evenings and pop up suppers as well as private functions.

Nkuku Lifestyle Store

Nkuku Lifestyle Store can be found just outside of Totnes in Harbertonford, just a short drive from Dartmouth. They sell a beautiful collection of homeware, lighting and more by talented artisans and have a real focus on sustainable materials and traditional techniques.

Fanciflair Designs

Fanciflair Designs is located in the Old Market Square and specialises in heat resistant natural stone platters, coasters and gifts.

Rolys Fudge Pantry

Rolys Fudge is now a widely recognised brand which originated in Devon and is known for it’s delicious crumbly fudge.

Dartmouth Markets

A great way to support independent sellers in Dartmouth is to head to one of our fantastic markets. Dartmouth Old Market is open Monday to Saturday and home to some great shops offering lots of different products. Visit the Dartmouth Good Food & Artisan Market (previously the Dartmouth Farmers Market) here on the second Saturday of each month for a great selection of local produce and artisanal gifts.
