Our Favourite Photos of Dartmouth’s Streets

Dartmouth has some pretty iconic photography locations, the Boat Float, Dartmouth Castle and Jawbone Hill are just a few, however there are also a lot of places which are often overlooked. At first glance, Dartmouth’s streets might not be the most obvious spot for a pretty picture, but there are plenty of charming alleys and roads which are well worth a closer look.

As a town steeped in history, it’s no surprise that Dartmouth’s streets are something that are brimming with heritage. Particularly around the Boat Float where you’ll find buildings such as The Butterwalk which dates back to the mid 17th century and now houses Dartmouth Museum. Further from the centre of Dartmouth on Higher Street is The Cherub Inn, another building of historical importance and believed to be the oldest building in Dartmouth dating back to the 14th century.

One street which is instantly recognisable in the town is Foss Street, known for it’s varied collection of independent shops. Colourful window displays bring the street alive and you’ll often find bunting or other decorations up. At Christmastime it really sings with sparkling lights and trees lining the small but wonderful street.

As you head away from the town centre, Dartmouth also has lots of narrower streets many with steps leading up to the higher areas. One which springs to mind is Browns Hill, where in the spring there are often beautiful baskets of vibrant flowers dotted along the alley.

Below, we’ve put together a selection of our favourite photographs of Dartmouth’s streets for you to have a look at!
