Dartmouth is a magical place in our eyes and there are certainly plenty of places to capture a beautiful image, one that we especially love is Bayards Cove.
Resting peacefully on the banks of the River Dart, Bayards Cove is a popular location in Dartmouth due to its historical significance with Bayards Cove Fort and its glorious setting for watching the hubbub on the river and gazing across the river to Kingswear and out to sea. Bayards Cove Inn is a great spot to grab a bite to eat or drink, and if you’re really taken with view, you can even stay at Bayards Cove Inn too.
Bayards Cove Fort is a Tudor artillery fort built between 1522 and 1536 to defend the growing town of Dartmouth. It is now protected as a Grade I listed building and is managed by English Heritage who late last year undertook essential conservation work on the structure.
We’re often sharing photos taken by visitors and locals of Bayards Cove on our Instagram account as it’s so interesting to see how people capture this curious location. The archways of the fort frame the River Dart beautifully and the view across to Kingswear is simply stunning. Whether you take a shot looking over the fort or inside of it, out to sea from Bayards Cove or upstream, we think this marvellous place in Dartmouth deserved some recognition and what better way to do that than collate our favourite photos from you guys on Instagram!
