Small Business Saturday 2018

Small Business Saturday UK takes place every year on the first Saturday of December. Considered to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year, the event aims to promote small businesses to consumers and shoppers.

Happening on the 1st of December this year, Small Business Saturday will see lots of events and promotions taking place up and down the country’s high streets and online. For most of us it’s easy to get stuck in our ways doing most of shopping at big name stores and websites, but Small Business Saturday helps remind us of the fantastic shops and retailers that are right on our doorstep!

Dartmouth has a plethora of independent retailers, from wonderful galleries to unique gift shops – perfect for getting some of that Christmas shopping underway.

At Baxters Gallery on Foss Street, everything sold is made in the UK and there are lots of prints to buy depicting Dartmouth and the local area. White Sails Gallery also displays work from local and internationally acclaimed artists, ideal as gifts to suit a range of tastes.

The area is also known for its fantastic array of local producers, South Devon Chilli Farm for example, where you can peruse the shop for some spicy delights or relax in the café. Dartmouth Farmers Market also offers the opportunity to pick up produce from local farms and businesses.

Dartmouth’s Old Market is always a great place to start if you’re looking to support independent retailers. There are often markets taking place such as Dartmouth Artisan Market and other sellers who are there all year round.

Just a short drive from Dartmouth on the A379 coastal road you’ll find Ashby’s of Kingsbridge, a family-run business that can supply all your holiday needs, from camping and watersports equipment to locally sourced food for the whole family.

So next time you’re in Dartmouth, be it on the 1st of December for Small Business Saturday UK, or simply sometime in the future, just remember that by shopping in the local stores and shops, you’re really helping to make a difference to the owners of these small businesses.
