One way to really get you in the festive mood is going Christmas shopping. Whether you’re looking to buy something for that special someone, or looking for inspiration for your own wish list, Dartmouth and the surrounding area have some wonderful Christmas shopping events taking place this year. And of course, we’ve got a fantastic selection of independent shops for you to peruse too. This year, we’re urging people to try and shop locally and independent in order to be more sustainable and to support the local economy. Shopping small is the perfect way to give someone a unique and thoughtful gift. Take a look at where to do your Christmas shopping in Dartmouth and nearby places below. 

Christmas Shopping Events 

Lights, Lanterns and ‘Luminations, Brixham (27th November)

Brixham will celebrate their annual Christmas Lights Switch on with ‘Lanterns, Lights and ‘luminations’ this November. To mark the start of the festivities in the town, Brixham are holding a Christmas market along The Quay and Middle Street with over 35 traders and including Santa’s Grotto! Middle Street will also host a pop-up entertainment at the top by Apters Hill. 

The Great Hall Craft Fair, Dartington Hall, Dartington (2nd – 4th December)

Dartington Hall will be hosting their annual Christmas craft fair on the 2nd – 4th December. With over 40 stalls showcasing a wide range of contemporary makers, it’s a great place to start your Christmas shopping. There will also be live music, craft workshops and fantastic food available throughout the weekend.  

CHSW Christmas Fair, Old Market Square (3rd December)

Start your Christmas shopping on Saturday 3rd December at Dartmouth’s Old Market Square in Aid of Children’s Hospice South West. There will be a huge variety of stalls to peruse, selling a range of gifts, cards, jewellery, crafts, cakes and more. 

Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas, Kingsbridge (5th December)

Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas is back for this Christmas and it’s an event not to be missed! Watch live entertainment and browse unique gifts created by small, independent businesses. For children, the free ice rink will be back this year and you can enjoy a festive trip along the estuary on Kingsbridge’s little train. Santa will also be available to visit!  

Christmas Market, The Sail Loft, Dartmouth (13th December)

Organised and hosted by The Sail Loft and in collaboration with The Tribe, they’ll be holding a fabulous Christmas market focusing on female founded businesses. There will be a range of great businesses selling a variety of wares such as jewellery, hand-crafted gifts, clothing and more! 

Totnes Christmas Market, Totnes (6th, 13th & 20th December)

Enjoy Totnes’ wholesome and festive atmosphere at their Christmas market on Tuesday evenings throughout December. Bring along family and friends to check out the independent businesses and stalls, listen to the live music and sip on a warming cup of milled cider. Make sure to check out their free Gnome Trail if you have little ones too.  

Christmas Shopping

Dartmouth is home to such a fantastic array of independent businesses perfect for picking up gifts for your loved ones, or even treats for yourself! There are so many benefits of shopping small. You’re helping to be more sustainable as well as supporting the local economy. Whether it’s clothes and accessories from one of our wonderful boutiques or a piece of art by a local artist in one of the galleries, you’ll find the ideal place to shop for Christmas. Dartmouth Farmers Market

Held on the second Saturday of each month, Dartmouth’s Farmers Markets are popular events for both locals and visitors, with lots of great produce on offer. Over the Christmas period, the farmers market will host a great range of festive good to purchase as well as being able to choose from artisan bakes, savoury goods and home-grown plants. In December, the farmers market will be held on 10th December from 9:30 – 3:30pm. 

Dartmouth Artisan Market

Held on the fourth Saturday of every month in Dartmouth’s Old Market Square. You’ll find a range of handmade gifts made by local Devon artists, crafts people and artisans. Pick up items such as jewellery, soaps and scarves – perfect gifts for your loved ones.
