If you’re looking for a week filled with excitement, family fun, and a dash of maritime magic, then mark your calendars for the upcoming 178th Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta! After the incredible success of last year’s festivities, we’re gearing up for an even more unforgettable experience this time around.

The countdown has begun, and Regatta Week is set to kick off on Friday, August 18th. Brace yourselves for an array of thrilling events and activities that will keep your spirits high and your smiles wide.

An Action-Packed Week Awaits

The fun kicks off with the Tennis Tournament and Rowing events on August 18th. But that’s just the beginning! The following day, August 19th, welcomes the Family Fun Weekend sponsored by Goulden & Sons. Starting at 10am at the Bandstand in the Royal Avenue Gardens, this is where the heart of Dartmouth comes alive with a diverse range of activities catering to the entire family.

Expect to be amazed by old favourites like Professor Bumble, who will be hosting Circus skills workshops and captivating children with his popular show. For those looking to make a splash, the Swimming Gala at the Outdoor Pool promises exhilarating moments.

Ozzie D, a member of the Magician’s Circle, will weave his magic and charm on Sunday, while interactive animal encounters with Lakemoor Alpacas, Dartmoor Zoo, and Prickles in a Pickle will keep everyone entertained. Keep an eye out for the Seal Project, the Ash Rescue Centre, and the British Divers Marine Life Rescue team. And don’t miss the adorable four-legged stars strutting their stuff in the annual Dog Show!

Sailing, Rowing, and More

Prepare to be mesmerized as the Sailing and Rowing programs commence, featuring the Royal Dart Yacht Club, Dittisham Yacht Club, and Dartmouth Yacht Club. These skilled crews will showcase their prowess on the water. But fear not if you’re not a seasoned sailor – the Kon-Tiki Raft Race on August 26th offers a chance for all to enjoy the waterborne thrill.

The Local Rowing heats take place on August 20th and 21st, with the finals scheduled for August 25th. And let’s not forget the Waterborne Tug of War on the River Dart – a lively addition to this year’s festivities.

Walking on Fire for a Cause

On August 22nd, at 8:30pm, a heart-pounding event returns by popular demand – Dartmouth’s Firewalk. Join hands with Scott Bell, a Guinness World Record Holder, and UK FireWalk, for a spine-tingling experience of walking across red-hot embers. Not only will you test your courage, but you’ll also contribute to local community groups. This year, the event is accompanied by the electrifying Barbican Theatre Electric Eels. To join, register on our website for this remarkable event, proudly sponsored by Bays Brewery.

A Week of Culture and Entertainment

From Pilot Financial Series & Junior Dinghy Races to the Passage Race, Gaffers & White Sail Events, and the Coastal Rowing heats, there’s something for everyone during the mid-week festivities. And for the 178th Regatta, we introduce the Waterborne Tug of War – a unique way to embrace the spirit of competition on the river.

Enjoy the Scavenger Hunt and Waterborne Treasure Hunt as you explore the delightful town. The Coronation River Parade, sponsored by Premier, Noss on Dart, promises a majestic spectacle with around 50 vessels gracing the waters. Keep your eyes on the skies for a mesmerizing Flyboarding display that will leave you in awe.

Music, Shopping, and Traditions

Royal Avenue Gardens will be alive with the rhythm of live music throughout the day, completely free for everyone to enjoy. A small donation to support the local Regatta is appreciated. Dance the night away at the Silent Disco on Saturday and Monday nights, and groove to the live music performances starting on Monday with Jack Wotton. Other talented performers throughout the week include Mark Ely, Mick & Lucy, and 4Play, culminating in a fantastic finale by the Waves Collective.

Don’t miss the enchanting performances by the Sea Galls in the Bandstand, with surprise appearances around town, weather permitting. Traditional events like Regatta Praise on August 20th and the daily Regatta Recitals at St Saviours Church will add a touch of culture to your week.

Sports enthusiasts, rejoice! The week boasts Tennis tournaments and the exciting Golf Tournament on Wednesday, hosted at the Dartmouth Hotel & Golf Club.

Explore, Discover, and Win!

The Information Hut, centrally located in the Royal Avenue Gardens, is your go-to for all questions and information. Grab your Special Edition Coronation Programme with stunning artwork by local artist Paul Barclay on the cover – a true collector’s item. Take home a piece of last year’s magic too, if you don’t have the previous year’s programme ask one of our volunteers as we still have some left with Paul Barclay’s 2022 design. While you’re here, join in the excitement of Spot the Oddity – a beloved competition that lets you explore local businesses while hunting for that quirky ‘oddity’ in their windows.

An Exciting Opening

As the week unfolds, make sure not to miss the traditional Opening Ceremony in Royal Avenue Gardens, accompanied by the soul-stirring Beating Retreat by Her Majesty’s Royal Marine’s Band, Collingwood. Plus, soak in the Shopping Parade along the North Embankment, where you can find a variety of local gifts, food, and drink. The Royal Avenue Gardens offer a vibrant setting for activities like the Ice-cream Competition, ‘Surf & Turf’ Fancy Dress, the Colouring Competition, and the Pavement Chalk Artists.

Honouring Tradition

Supported by Dartmouth Town Council, we’re excited to welcome back Baker Estates as our Platinum sponsor, joined by the new Platinum partner, Bays Brewery, for 2023. Friday Fun day will be a barrel of laughs with Barrel Rolling, Waiters & Waitresses Races, the thrilling International Trolley Grand Prix, and the annual Road Races.

Explore the Armed Forces Military Village on Spithead, where the Mobile Outreach Van showcases intriguing equipment and offers opportunities to don military attire.

A Spectacular Grand Finale

The festivities culminate on Saturday evening with the Closing Ceremony, followed by the iconic Fireworks Display that never fails to leave the crowd in awe.
