Christmas Festivities to enjoy in and around Dartmouth

Christmas is certainly on its way and with so many exciting events happening it can be difficult to decide where to go and what to do. Below you will find a list compiled of the many wonderful winter and Christmas festivities going on this year in Dartmouth and the surrounding areas. Think twinkling lights, unique gifts and cheery musical concerts to really kick start your holiday season.

Candlelit Dartmouth (24th-25th Nov)

Watch Dartmouth turn into winter wonderland this November as over two days the town is adorned with sparkling lights and full with Christmas visitors. Beginning on Friday the 24th from 4pm you will find a Christmas market and plenty of seasonal entertainment throughout the town. The official Christmas light switch-on will also take place as well as Santa’s arrival by boat. The activities will start once again on Saturday the 25th from 10am with a magical lantern procession through the town during the evening.

Blackawton Christmas Craft Fair (1st-2nd Dec)

Taking place in Blackawton Village Hall, the Blackawton School’s Christmas Craft Fair is back again this year. Open from 2pm-7pm on Friday the 1st of December and 10am-3pm Saturday the 2nd, this is the perfect place to gather all those unique handcrafted gifts that you just can’t get anywhere else. Light refreshments will also be available to enjoy whilst you peruse the many wondrous stalls available.

Coleton Aglow (1st-17th Dec, 20th-31st Dec)

Looking for something a little bit different to do this Christmas? At Coleton Fishacre, run by the National Trust, they are decorating their gardens and house for a truly festive treat. Wander through the beautiful gardens and around the house by twinkling lights and discover a 1920s themed Christmas party! Coleton Aglow Pre-Christmas takes places on Fridays, Saturday and Sunday from the 1st December to the 17th, with Coleton Aglow at Christmas beginning from the 20th December to the 31st closed on (Christmas Day and Boxing Day) From 5pm to 7pm, pre-booking is essential and there are two times to choose from.

CHSW Christmas Fayre (2nd Dec)

Held in the Old Market, Dartmouth from 10am to 3pm on the 2nd of December, this is a Christmas Fayre that will make a difference. Browse the plethora of seasonal stalls and pick up some beautiful, one of kind presents for your loved ones, there will also be balloon modelling to keep the kiddies entertained. All proceeds will help Children’s Hospice South West to care for terminally ill children and their families.

On Christmas Night (2nd Dec)

Presented by Britannia Choral Society at Flavel Church, Dartmouth on the 2nd of December, On Christmas Night will be a treat for your ears as you can enjoy a festive concert of seasonal music. Tickets are just £10 or £5 for students and can be purchased on the door. The matinee performance will begin at 4:30pm with evening performance taking place at 7:30pm.

1950s Pop Up Cinema at Greenway (2nd-31st Dec)

At Greenway this winter, the holiday home of the infamous Agatha Christie, now looked after by the National Trust you can revel in some classic films being screened in a 1950s style marquee. From the 2nd of December until Christmas, on weekend days you can view an array of different movies in a truly unique setting, with further screenings available daily thereafter until the 31st of December with a closure for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Christmas at Pennywell Farm (25th Nov-24th Dec)

Join in with the Christmas Nativity at Pennywell Farm this holiday season or simply sit back, relax and enjoy the festive display along with all the adorable animals. Children can also enjoy a traditional visit to Santa’s grotto whilst you visit. The Nativity will be at three different times on Saturdays and Sundays up until the 17th of December then daily from the 18th-24th December.

Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas (2nd Dec)

Live entertainment, a fantastic farmers market and a visit from Father Christmas, what more could you possibly desire from a Christmas event?  Join Kingsbridge on Saturday the 2nd December as they party their way in to the holiday season with local producers all over Devon come to the town to join in the fun. The Farmers Market will be set up in the Town Square and stalls will line Fore Street for visitors to begin their Christmas shopping.

Santa Express (3rd-24th Dec)

On selective dates from the 3rd of December to the 24th delve into an exciting festive adventure as you board the Santa Express Steam Railway from Paignton to Kingswear and back again. Kids can join in with the jubilant pantomime whilst adults enjoy a mulled wine and mince pie. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Totnes Late Night Shopping & Christmas Markets (5th, 12th, 19th Dec)

Totnes becomes a sea of glistening lights and merry shoppers during this popular annual event. Held from 3:30pm-9:30pm on Tuesdays in December leading up to Christmas, this is a real treat for the whole family, with street entertainment, plenty of stalls to purchase some unusual gifts and lots of food and drink to be enjoyed. A separate event in the Civic Square ensures Totnes is jam-packed with all the Christmas delights you could ask for!
