Celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Dartmouth 

Over the Jubilee Bank holiday weekend Dartmouth and Kingswear will be thoroughly involved with celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. From Thursday 2nd – Sunday 5th a fabulous array of festivities and events will be popping up all over the area, including at Coronation Park, the Royal Avenue Gardens, and the iconic Britannia Royal Naval College, where the Queen had her first publicised meeting with her future Prince Phillip in 1939.  

 

Thursday 2nd June   

 

Jubilee Arts Fair, The Flavel Arts Centre, Dartmouth 

Throughout the day on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June The Flavel Arts Centre will be hosting a truly fabulous Jubilee Arts Fair as part of their Royal Celebratory Weekend. The work on display will be of a wide variety, including paintings, photography, sculptures, ceramics, jewellery, and plenty more! This event is free to the public to attend and open from 10am – 4pm. There’s also an opportunity for local artists to exhibit and sell their work, you can find more information about the event here.  

 

Group Walk of the Diamond Jubilee Way, Dartmouth 

Start the long weekend with a walk of the Diamond Jubilee Way, led by Dartmouth Walk and Talk, a fun and friendly walking group who organise weekly walks around Dartmouth and the surrounding area.  This walk starts at Dartmouth Castle Tea Rooms at 10:15am and will pause at Jawbone Hill to admire the view of the town and estuary, as well as stopping to enjoy lunch so bring along a picnic to keep you going for the remainder of the walk! 

 

Platinum Jubilee Procession and Opening Ceremony, Royal Avenue Gardens, Dartmouth 

From 12:30pm on Thursday 2nd June local uniformed groups will gather in Coronation Park for a Jubilee Procession along the Embankment before arriving at Royal Avenue Gardens for the Jubilee Opening Ceremony. On the bandstand Dartmouth Town Crier Les Ellis will site the National Proclamation, accompanied by Peter the Piper playing Diu Regnare as a royal tribute to The Queen. There will be street party-style seating and a local charity will be serving refreshments from the tea hut.  

 

Platinum Jubilee Proclamation, Kingswear Village Hall, Kingswear 

After the reading in Royal Avenue Garden’s Les Ellis will be hopping over to Kingswear to read the National Proclamation on Kingswear Village Hall steps at 2:30pm. 

 

Official Ribbon Cutting and Plaque Unveiling of New Trees, Dartmouth Orchard 

At 3:30pm there will be a ribbon cutting and plaque unveiling at Dartmouth Orchard by the Captain of the Britannia Royal Naval College and hosted by Friends of the Orchard as Dartmouth’s contribution to the Queen’s Green Canopy.  

 

Torchlit Procession, Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth 

Leaving the BRNC, the Jubilee Torchlit Procession will proceed around the town and return to Coronation Park for the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon at 9:45 as part of the Nation Lighting of the Beacons around the UK. Refreshments will be available at the park.  

 

Beacon Lighting at Fountain Violet Farm, Kingswear 

At 9:35pm Peter the Piper will play the Diu Regnare as a Tribute to HM The Queen, followed by the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon at 9:45pm. Food and drink will be available during this event too.  

 

Floodlighting of the BRNC, Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth 

After dark on Thursday 2nd June, and every night until Sunday 5th June, the Britannia Royal Naval College will be lit up to celebrate the Jubilee as the place where the Queen first met her Prince in 1939.  

 

Friday 3rd June 

 

Jubilee Arts Fair, The Flavel Arts Centre, Dartmouth 

Visit The Flavel Arts Centre for day 2 of it’s fabulous Jubilee Arts Fair, open from 10am – 4pm. 

 

Jubilee Market, Old Market Square, Dartmouth 

On Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th June a Jubilee Market will take place in the Old Market Square in Dartmouth, selling a variety of gifts, food, jewellery, and plenty more items fit for royalty!  

 

Music and Entertainment in Royal Avenue Gardens, Dartmouth 

All day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Royal Avenue Gardens will be filled with a sea of smiling faces enjoying the wonderful music and entertainment, with refreshments available to purchase from the charity tea hut within the gardens. During the day on Friday there will be a choir service lead by St Saviour’s Church and supported by BRNC Chaplaincy on the bandstand in Royal Avenue Garden’s.  

 

St Pauls Service of Thanksgiving, Kingswear Village Hall, Kingswear 

As part of Kingswear’s Jubilee celebrations there will be a live stream event at Kingswear Village Hall of the St Pauls Service of Thanksgiving. During the service cream tea and prosecco will be served. Tickets for this event are free of charge, but booking is required via www.kingswearparishcouncil.gov.uk or by registering interest at Kingswear Post Office or General Store.    

 

Cruise on Paddle Steamer ‘Kingswear Castle’ 

All aboard the Kingswear Castle Paddle Steamer! This coal-fired river paddle steamer, dating back to 1924 will be setting sail along the River Dart to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. With pick up from Kingswear Castle at 5:45 and Dartmouth Town Jetty at 6:00 you can expect a royally fun-filled night with music from Missin’ Tackle and an on-board bar! Tickets to this event are just £20 with proceeds going towards the Jubilee Bell Fund at St Thomas of Canterbury Church in Kingswear, and guest are invited to bring their own food. 

 

Saturday 4th June 

 

Jubilee Market, Old Market Square, Dartmouth 

Following on from the previous day, the Jubilee Market returns to the Old Market Square for another day of trading! On Saturday 4th there will be a Thai food event in the Market Square from 7pm onwards with live music and plenty of tasty food! Tickets for this event can be bought from Jenny Koo in the Market Square.  

 

Music and Entertainment in Royal Avenue Gardens, Dartmouth 

Get ready for another day of the fantastic music and entertainment at Royal Avenue Gardens, suitable for the whole family! 

 

Queen’s Tea Party, Kingswear Village Hall, Kingswear 

From 3pm – 5pm Kingswear Village Hall will be transformed into a fabulous afternoon tea party for the senior citizens of Kingswear Parish. Afternoon tea will be served alongside old-time music, so expect a big sing-along too! This event is free of charge, but booking is required via www.kingswearparishcouncil.gov.uk or by registering interest at Kingswear Post Office or General Store.    

 

Britannia Royal Naval College Jubilee Party, BRNC, Dartmouth 

BRNC are hosting a night of music and fireworks in celebration of HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Saturday 4th June from 7pm. Expect an extravagant evening of live music, a BBQ, cash bar and the evening will finish with a spectacular display of fireworks! Of course, the Floodlighting of the BRNC will also be occurring on this evening too. Tickets to this event are just £10 per adult and £5 per children and priority will be given to those who live in Dartmouth and Kingswear with proof of address required to complete the purchase.  

 

Sunday 5th June 

 

The Big Jubilee Picnic, Coronation Park, Dartmouth 

As part of the national Jubilee celebrations, towns, villages and cities will be hosting a big picnic event across the UK. Dartmouth will be hosting theirs at Coronation Park. This free family event will include music, a bouncy castle (chargeable), plus children’s entertainment by Elfic and Professor Bumble, and The Dartington Morris Men will be there to give you a show. You can also expect a range of activities such as walking rugby and refreshments, including a BBQ.  

 

Music and Entertainment in Royal Avenue Gardens, Dartmouth 

As well as the Big Picnic, there will also be music, entertainment and refreshments at Royal Avenue Gardens for its final day of festivities, before the last floodlighting of the BRNC after dark.
